Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz bakal terajui IMF.


KUALA LUMPUR – Bloomberg news columnist, William Pesek named Malaysia’s Central Bank Governor, Tan Sri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz as one of the candidates from the Asian region who was qualified to replace Dominique Strauss-Kahn as Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Strauss-Kahn who is facing a sexual attack charge and was released with a USD$1 million (RM3 million) bail yesterday after resigning from the important position in IMF.
According to Pesek, Zeti who is well respected in the international level proved that she is qualified for the position based on several financial management record especially her role in realizing Kuala Lumpur as a global hub of Islamic financial industry worth USD$1 trillion.
“She was also in the team which is against IMF ago and won. Late in 1990, while seen as inevitable for Malaysia together with Thailand, Indonesia and South Korea in accepting rescue funds from IMF.
“But Malaysia said no and Zeti helped achieved it,” he said in an article published in the website http://www.bloomberg.com.
Apart from Zeti, Pesek also named other several big names like Haruhiko Kuroda from Japan, Sri Mulyani Indrawati from Indonesia and Montek Singh Ahluwalia from India among four of the best candidates from the Asian region to replace Strauss-Kahn.
Meanwhile, AFP reported, Judge Micheal Obus released Strauss-Kahn from Rikers Island prison after he agreed to pay USD$5 million (RM15 million) insurance bond to hand over all his travelling documents.
However, he still needs to undergo house arrest in an apartment in Manhattan.
His trial hearing is set on June 6.
